The 1975 Avant-Garde Archive & Private Gallery

Paw Thame, Sonny Nyein, and Bagyi Aung Soe. Rangoon, 1982
With 20 years of direct involvement in the Burmese avant-garde, Burma Modern Art is the definitive archive for the 1975 Peacock Gallery Circle. We specialize in the preservation and institutional placement of rare masterworks by Win Pe, Paw Thame and Bagyi Aung Soe, prioritizing scholarly legacy over mass-market retail. Our collection is defined by unimpeachable provenance, rooted in decades of personal relationships with the architects of the movement.

First Generation: The Pioneers. Bagyi Aung Soe (1924–1990) and Kin Maung (Bank) (1910–1983) broke away from tradition to introduce modern art to Myanmar.

Second Generation: The Progressives. Win Pe (1936– ), Paw Oo Thett (1936–1993), and Kin Maung Yin (1938–2014) built upon the pioneers' work.

Third Generation: The Rebel. Paw Thame (1948–2014) reimagined the foundational philosophies of Kin Maung (Bank) and the vanguard, serving as a bridge to the contemporary era.
